Playing sweepstakes casinos in Canada is very different experience, compared to the US. I created a Canadian account to test eight different platforms and see which can realistically be played in Canada, because there are many platforms that allow access, but they don’t support any working payment method and redemptions are practically impossible outside the US. There are other casinos that claim to be available in Canada, but conveniently skip the part they cannot be played in Ontario or Quebec or throw this information in the Terms and Conditions page in fine print. These casinos didn’t make my list.
US-focused guides never mention what kind of hurdles Canadian players must jump over if they want to play at sweepstakes casinos. One of the obvious friction points is that all casino packages are priced in USD. It means that every time a purchase is made, Canadians need to pay conversion fees. Payment methods are also limited and Interac, which is the most famous payment tool in Canada, is not available in most sweepstakes platforms. It leaves players with just two options: PayPal or bank cards. Ontario’s situation is also curious. It is a specific regulatory category, because iGaming market regulated by AGCO runs alongside sweepstakes platforms. Age requirements are also different and some locations need players to be 18+, while others will allow online play at 19+.
Keep one thing in mind: not every platform that says “available in Canada” on its page offers a perfect experience for Canadian players. Some of these sites require a workaround for specific limitations and come with a currency conversion costs that are rarely mentioned, but can eat through your balance faster than you’d think.
